Adult Literacy

What Is Literacy? The basic reading, writing, math, communication and computer skills needed to be successful in the home, at work and in the community.

Indiana

The Randolph County Literacy Coalition started in 1989 with a steering committee. It now has a board of directors and over 150 individual and corporate members.

The Coalition awards grants to teachers in Randolph County schools who need financial support for a specified activity designed to improve literacy skills in their class.

Each year, as a prevention measure, the Coalition gives a thesaurus to every 6th grader in Randolph County. The Literacy Coalition also sponsors an adult spelling bee annually to raise funds for its programs.

Basic Adult Education Classes are available as scheduled at extension locations courtesy of the Muncie Career Center at the following locations:

  • Luz Tacos at 228 N Columbia St. in Union City, IN
  • Winchester WorkOne Center, 325 S. Oak St. in Winchester, IN
