The City of Union City Indiana employs people in a variety of jobs.

Employment opportunities in the city workforce are advertised in local and area newspapers.
Employment applications are obtained at the City Clerk’s Office located at 105 N. Columbia St. Applications are reviewed by the City Manager and the Supervisor of the department with the open position. Background checks are required for most employment. If certifications are required they are included in the application packet, along with the appropriate job description.

Police Officer Employment
The Union City Indiana Police
Department is an eight person force serving the Union City Community.
When a position is open on the police force, a limited application period is advertised in local newspapers. Applicant packets are made available at the police department during the hiring phase. A background check is required before further testing is scheduled. The next phase of the process consists of a written test, an agility test, and interviews.
The Union City Police Department utilizes a reserve force of volunteers who are provided training as required under Indiana Statutes. Many reserve officers have transitioned to full-time officers over the years, and it is an excellent way to obtain no-cost certifications and experience for a law enforcement career, either with the Union City Indiana Police Department or another agency.

When the Village of Union city increase our staff or experiences a vacancy, the Village attempts to honor our current employees by appointing from within our ranks. However, when this not possible, the Village advertises these employment opportunities within the local media and sometimes within various state, regional, and/or national employment advertisements.
