Elections and Voting

You must be “registered” to vote in the State of Ohio.  Members of the armed forces serving on active duty are exempt from this requirement.

Where Can I Register?

1) At any county board of elections or the Secretary of State’s Office
2) At any public high school or vocational school
3) At the office of any Bureau of Motor Vehicles
4) Public Libraries
5) County Treasurer’s office

You may also register by mail by obtaining a registration form from the board of elections, license bureau, library or Secretary of State’s office.

The State of Ohio does NOT require you to declare your politics when registering.  Under Ohio law, your party affiliation is determined by the ballot you vote in a primary election.

Change of address or name?

If you are registered and move within the state or same county or change your name, you must report the change to the board of elections by completing a voter registration form at the locations stated above or be mail as stated above.

You can also complete a notice of change in voting status and file it with the court when you apply for a marriage license or when your name is changed by court order.
